This week, many members of our community will receive the Central Oregon Housing Survey. I am writing to ask Sisters area residents to make their voices heard by taking a few minutes to fill it out.

By completing the survey, community members will be taking an active part in local planning efforts to sustain the future health of our community.

The Central Oregon Housing Survey is being administered by the Central Oregon Regional Housing Authority and sponsored by the Northwest Area Foundation.

The survey seeks to determine an honest understanding of existing housing conditions in Sisters (as well as other communities in Central Oregon). The survey is just one part of a housing needs assessment, scheduled for completion by June. Specifically the assessment will identify housing needs by each housing type and identify existing housing inventory, including condition and age of substandard housing. It will also identify current housing gaps and trends.

This important information will help us plan for the future of our community. If you have any questions regarding the survey please call me at 549-1193.

The home rule charter is flawed.

In voting for the home rule charter in this election you give away to the county commissioners our right to vote for 44 percent of our county-elected officials. Those officials are the county clerk, treasurer, assessor and surveyor.

The county commissioners will hire replacements for these offices as the present elected terms expire.

The incorporated cities in Deschutes County, are presently all home rule cities. But the home rule of the cities does not remove any ability of the citizens to vote for the elected positions within the cities' framework.

That is one reason and reason enough to vote no on this measure.

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Association wishes to thank the businesses and associations who provided assistance in our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

It was with great pleasure we hosted the Easter Egg Hunt. Along with the Easter Bunny (Spurge Cochran), we greeted hundreds and celebrated Easter in a grand manner.

The fourth annual Clean the Green at Sisters Elementary School, sponsored by the Sisters Parent Teacher Community Group (SPTC), was held on Saturday, April 15.

We had our best turnout ever -- over 100 students, parents, grandparents, teachers and school staff joined in to spruce up the school grounds.

I'd like to thank everyone who gave up their Saturday morning to participate in this event. Also, thank you to those involved in the planning including the office staff at the school.

A special thank you to Tim Comfort, our principal, who has given so much support to the SPTC group. He's always been there for us and has donated many weekend and evening hours to our projects. And boy, can he swing a pick axe!

On behalf of my mother, wife and children, I wish to express a very sincere thank you to all who have helped and are still helping us through this period of transition following the death of my father.

Without your friendship, prayers, cards, flowers and expressions of sympathy, this period in our lives would certainly have been much more difficult to bear.
