Students create writing club

Linsey Lombardi and Katie Sims are two members of the Writers' Club at Sisters Middle School.

Sisters Middle School unleashed the talents of its most advanced group of young writers with the first meeting of the writers' club earlier this month.

Formed as an outlet for talented middle school writers, the club is comprised of eighth graders who enjoy writing. The club members hope to expand on their writing abilities and show off their talents to other students.

"We are hoping to learn something from each other's stories and to become famous authors, at least within our school," said Alyssa Boley, one of the group members.

Kim Dunaway, Language Arts teacher at Sisters Middle School and founder of the writers' club, said, "I think there is a need to recognize the students that not only like to write, but have talent they can share with others. Sometimes there is not enough time in the curriculum for them to do the kind of writing they would like to explore so this club can be a vehicle for them."

The students will use the club to hone their skills.

"I wish to be able to write as well as I know I can," said Justin Hedemark, a student in the club.

The writers' club will meet twice a month for the remainder of the school year.

Members hope to have some of their works published in local media outlets. For more information please contact Sandy Muller at 541-549-3088.
