Talent show hops back to '50s

Students from Pat Cook's School of Dance will perform in the Sisters Act.

Comb back your hair, roll up those tee shirt sleeves, and dust off your poodle skirts for the eighth annual community talent show, "Sisters Act Hops Into the '50s," to be held Saturday, March 10, at 7 p.m., at Sisters High School.

Pat Cook's School of Dance students will perform several '50s dances with students ranging from age seven through adult. A group of Sisters teachers will perform a '50s dance, and yet another teachers' group will harmonize to "Graduation Day."

Students from Sisters Head Start will sing and dance. There will be "Elvis" performing with the Kolb family, The Wonders' Band, and yet another Robert Service poem presented. An all-cast finale dance, with 90 cast members, will wrap up the program.

Veteran Kelly Powell will return to emcee along with his new assistant, fifth grade student, Tyson Edmunson.

To keep the evening hopping Melvin Herberger will be on stage with door prize giveaways and "at the drive-in movie" treats. Refreshments will be available during intermission along with ticket chances for the rare 2000 "thank-you" Beanie Baby.

The program is sponsored by Sisters Good Samaritan Ministries, part of Good Samaritan Ministries International, which works to provide education to children in Third World countries.

Half the proceeds from the event will be sent to Masaka, Uganda to be used for the construction of a three-room high school for the orphans of the rural area of Masaka. The students have been meeting under a tree, and are hopeful for classrooms in which to continue their studies.

Profits will also benefit Sisters High School programs, including the art and drama departments and the Senior Leadership Scholarship fund. Students from Sisters High school have been helping with advertisement, soliciting door prizes, painting artwork and props for the show, and will be on hand to help with refreshments, lights, sound, and stage management.

The Aid Association of Lutherans (AAL) Branch #92 l 2, have awarded the Sisters Good Samaritan Ministries an $800 matching grant to be shared with Sisters High School and Masaka High School.

Tickets are on sale at the Mountain Man Trading Post, The Pony Express and at the door. Adults: $5; Children, 12 & under: $3. Seating is limited; buy tickets early.
