students do well in history competition
Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3 The group dramatic team of Elizabeth Dale, Ande Phillips, Annie Hancock, and Charlie Phillips placed 10th in the nation out of a field of 100 competitors for their presentation of "A Frontier in Constitutional History: Prohibition: a Noble Experiment." Their creation, a culmination of over seven months of research, analysis of the topic, and script writing also garnered them the Best of State Award. History Day officials judged Jarett Hancock's museum exhibit titled, "A New Eye In The Sky: Radar" as eighth best in the nation with consistent marks of "exceptional." Hancock tracked the development of radar as a frontier that helped the Allies forces during World War II. The senior division dramatic team from Sisters High School, composed of C.J. Adams, Laura Leis, and Will Hanson competed in finals placing them in the top 12 in the nation.

Most states have full-time History Day coordinators and drama coaches readily available for all students, especially those who reach the national level. Oregon participants receive relatively little support from the state and none from the Oregon Department of Education. The Sisters-area students were, however, strongly supported in the local community. In an eight-week fund raising effort, the communities of Camp Sherman and Sisters raised $13,000 for all 13 participants to travel across the country to attend the competition. |
