Sisters celebrates first 100 years
Sisters is celebrating the 100th
anniversary of the platting of the town with a series of events throughout
July.
The town was laid out back
in 1901 by Alex and Robert Smith.
Walking tours of the town
will provide a historic backdrop for the celebration events. Tours meet
every day at 2 p.m. at the Sisters Visitors' Center, 164 N. Elm Street.
On Saturday July 7, there
will be a craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Village Green.
There will be a Heritage Parade
at 2 p.m. on Hood Avenue with an ice cream social immediately following
at the Village Green Park.
Local artist Dennis McGregor
has created a poster to commemorate the Centennial. The painting combines
elements of Sisters' signature events, including the Sisters Rodeo, the
Quilt Show (coming up on Saturday, July 14), the jazz festival and the
folk festival.
Posters will be available
at the Visitors Center and at each of the Centennial events.
