Letters, letters, letters
The Nugget welcomes contributions from its readers, which must include the writer's name, address and phone number. Letters to the Editor is an open forum for the community and contains unsolicited opinions not necessarily shared by the Editor. To the Editor:

Thanks to all those hardy souls who spent the last week on horseback and in wagons on the road from Prineville to Sisters.

The Centennial Wagon Train was a wonderful representation of the people who came to our area 100 years ago. This group rode down dusty roads and braved the heat and rain and hail just as the early settlers did.

We thank Jeri and Bob Buckman for putting it all together and all those who saddled and hitched up the horses every day. What a great sight they were coming down Cascade Avenue among the cars and motorcycles on Saturday.

Thanks to Ruth and her quilting friends and their antique quilts and Daniel Partner with his music and stories; they all added to a fun afternoon at the park.

Won't you join us for the last event of this Centennial Celebration? This coming Saturday, July 28, will be the Block Party at the Village Green Park at 2 p.m. Bring your picnic supper and a dessert to share or plan to buy hot dogs and pop from the Sisters Fire Department. The Kiwanis Club is hosting this event and will be having entertainment and old fashioned games.

To the Editor:

SOAR celebrated with the Sisters community last Saturday at an all-day party on the elementary school playground.

Hundreds of people participated in the event, which included a foot race, volleyball tournament, basketball tournament, games, live music and delicious barbecue.

We'd like to thank the local musicians, Jim Cornelius, Randy and Stephanie King and Rick Sprague, who donated their skills and voices, and especially Doug Cavanaugh and Big Eddy for use of their sound system and for entertaining us all the way through clean-up.

Thanks especially to our volunteers and SOAR board members, who were exceptional in sharing the work.

And thanks to our local kids, who can always make us smile, just by being kids. What a wonderful day.
