Sewer project stalls in snow

Work on the Sisters sewer system was halted Monday, November 26, in the wake of a snowstorm that dumped as much as a foot of snow on the city.

"Nobody's working today," said Public Works Director Gary Frazee.

According to Frazee, a crew was to begin work at Mountain Shadow RV Park, but they would have to work from Highway 20 and that was deemed too dangerous in the snowy conditions.

With weather forecasts indicating more snow on the way, the progress of lateral hook-ups to homes in Sisters appears to be slowing down significantly.

There are still about 25 homes awaiting hook-ups on the north side of Cascade Avenue, and 100 left to be completed on the south side. Construction crews will continue to work as weather permits.

According to Sisters City Administrator Barbara Warren, work south of Cascade Avenue was slowed down by a week when crews hit large amounts of rock. Warren noted that the septic systems at the lodge were in poor shape, which is consistent with what crews have been finding all over town.

The Sisters City Council dropped a bid from Meza Construction of Klamath Falls for lateral line construction in the industrial park.

The company had not listed subcontractors as required by the bid.

On Monday, the council announced its intent to award the bid to Scenic Builders for $115,895.

Rasch Construction will lay the main lines for $575,997.

Work on the Industrial Park probably won't start till after the first of the year, according to Warren.
