City
administrator search narrowed down
The search for a new city administrator
for the City of Sisters has narrowed down to two candidates.
The city council met with
five community members on Saturday, January 19, to interview four final
candidates (city planner Neil Thompson is not among them). The members
of the selection committee are planning commission member Sharlene Weed,
business woman Jean Wells Keenan, Chamber of Commerce director Clyde Stryker,
Nugget publisher Eric Dolson and Rotary president Phil Gerber.
"After they are interviewed,
the committee will make a selection and then we'll do background (checks),"
said outgoing city administrator Barbara Warren.
Warren reported on Monday,
January 21, that two finalists emerged from the interviews.
The city council could decide
to do a second interview.
According to Warren, the city
would be well served by any of the candidates.
"The candidates look really
good," she said.
It will still be a couple
of months before the new administrator is in place. Most candidates require
30 days to give notice to their current employer (one requires 60 days)
and there will be a month long transition period, Warren said.
Warren said she hopes the
selected candidate will be able to spend at least a week each with the
planning department, public works and on the administrative side of the
office to learn the ropes.
The outgoing administrator
said that completing the sewer and constructing the Barclay Road extension
linking the industrial park with Highway 20 will be immediate challenges
for a new administrator.
However, a smooth transition
into the job and the community is the biggest issue as far as Warren is
concerned.
"I think that's probably the
most important (thing)," she said.
