Sewer
project marches on in Sisters
By Jim Cornelius

The
digging goes on, but the end is in sight.

Crews are working along Barclay
Drive in the Sisters Industrial Park, installing mains for the final phase
of the sewer project.
As that work gets underway,
the city is taking bids to catch up on water and sewer hook-ups to newly
partitioned lots. Many lots are being broken up into smaller parcels as
sewer service becomes available and the City of Sisters wants to make
sure it has a handle on the work.
Property owners will pay for
new hook-ups, but the city will control the work, to ensure that everything
is built to city standards.
"The contractor is going to
work for us," said city public works director Gary Frazee.
The successful bidder will
have the opportunity to install additional new services for the following
year. That could mean a lot of work, if partitions occur at the pace expected
by city officials.
According to Frazee, each
new installation poses its own challenges. Some are water and sewer hook-ups,
some are sewer only and the length of laterals running from mains varies
widely.
"Right now I have seven that
need to be done and they're all different," Frazee said.
