Football stampedes into Sisters
Sisters has a new home football
team.
The Central Oregon Stampede
kicks off their season April 20 on the road against the Douglas County
Outlaws. The Sisters home opener is on Saturday, April 27.
The Stampede is a semi-pro,
full-contact football team made up of Central Oregon adult athletes and
coached by Sisters' own Bob Macauley.
"It's guys who have a couple
of hits left in them and they just love the game," Macauley said.
The team is in its second
year. They practice and play their home games at Sisters High School.
Many of the players have college
playing experience; some have played in the military.
According to running back
Phil Colton, some of the players are of high enough caliber to play in
arena league football or on Canadian or European teams.
"I think our youngest player
is 19; our oldest player is 37," Colton said.
The Stampede plays an eight
game schedule, with four games at home, all on Saturdays at 6 p.m. Tickets
are $3 and proceeds after expenses are donated to the Kids Center in Bend.
According to Colton, football
fans should get to see some good quality football from dedicated players
who give it their all for love of the game.
Macauley is running a Sisters
Outlaws program, which is just fine with the Stampede players. After all,
Macauley has led his teams to two state championships.
The Central Oregon Stampede
is part of the Oregon Football League. Other teams include: The Medford
Rogue Warriors, Douglas County Outlaws, and the Klamath Crusaders.
