Sisters Rodeo rolls into town
Tickets are selling fast for
the 62nd annual Sisters PRCA Rodeo scheduled for June 7-9.
With total purses of more
than $120,000, this early-season rodeo will attract some of the best cowboys
and cowgirls to the Sisters arena.
Performances will be held
Friday evening, June 7; Saturday afternoon and evening, June 8; and Sunday
afternoon, June 9. (See schedule, p. 3).
"We still have good seats
available for all performances," said Cathy Williams of the Sisters Rodeo
Association. "Friday night is Les Schwab Family Night with children under
12 admitted free. In addition, ticket buyers should ask about group rates
and children prices for the Sunday Pepsi Day afternoon show."
The rodeo will be the focus
of national attention again this year. Sisters Rodeo is part of the "Road
to the NFR," the Professional Rodeo Cowboys' Association's National Finals
Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.
For the second year, winners
from the first three performances will advance to a true championship
finals at the Sunday afternoon performance, according to Cathy Williams.
"That performance will be
televised nationally later on the TNN Network," she explained.
Flint Rasmussen from Montana
will be working as the clown. Curt Robinson of Pendleton returns as announcer,
assisted by Wayne Brooks from Arizona.
John S. Payne, "The One Arm
Bandit," a popular rodeo act who has performed throughout the United States,
Canada and Europe, will be the featured entertainment this year.
Legendary bullfighters Rob
Smets and Rowdy Barry will be in the arena, keeping the bulls off dismounted
cowboys.
Queen Tawny Morris, formerly
of John Day and now of Prineville, will reign over the weekend event,
including the Saturday morning Sisters Rodeo parade. Sisters Realtor Mike
Reed is this year's parade grand marshal.
The parade begins promptly
at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 in downtown Sisters.
The parade features many local
and regional entries and has become a highlight of the festive weekend.
Another highlight is the Sunday
morning Buckaroo Breakfast at the rodeo grounds sponsored by the Kiwanis
Club of Sisters.
Tickets are available at the
rodeo office at 220 S.W. Cascade Ave. in Sisters or by calling 549-0121.
