Ranch
cookbook provides aid to graduates
According to Marti Bradley-Kufchak, Association Secretary, the women's group selected the students on the basis of their grades, extra-curricular activities, an essay and an interview. Both students will attend the University of Oregon this fall. Comfort plans on majoring in elementary education. She participated in swimming, track and volleyball while at Sisters High School. Jensen will major in International Studies and has spent two months this year in Vincente Guerrero, Mexico, working at a children's nursery participating with "Foundation for His Ministry."
"I love the people and plan to go back to Mexico," said Jensen. Scholarship money comes from the sale of the BBR cookbook. The cookbook, containing over 200 recipes from homeowners, employees and friends, is available at local bookshops. Since its introduction in 1996, sales have passed the 5,000 mark. In the past, cookbook monies have also nourished Sisters Elementary School with a $1,000 donation for a sound system and a like amount for a classroom-raising project. Former BBR resident Connie O'Brien did the watercolor cover of a colorful meadow scene. Homeowners provided sketches of flora and fauna on the ranch for the book and artist Charlotte Milam, also a BBR resident, enhanced their work. |
