Church ladies prepare fair treats
In preparation
for the Sisters Episcopal Church Country Fair on August 10, 15 ladies from
the church have been busily cooking for months, preparing "Gourmet Garnishes."
Under the leadership of Jan
Baldwin and Dixie Fairfield, the cooks are: Marilyn Handy, Barbara Ehman,
Jayne Simmons, Sue Kellogg, Raydene Heitzhausen, Edie Larson, Georgia
Fritz, Geraldine Kavanagh, Marcia Wood, Jeanne Simonsen, Mimi Miller,
Nina Christopherson and Marlene Patton.
They have made over 550 jars
of three-pepper jelly, apple butter, marinated mushrooms, Oregon strawberry
jam, cranberry-pear relish, rhubarb-pineapple jam, marionberry jam, pear
chutney, red onion marmalade and mango chutney. All of the delicacies
will be available for sale at the fair.
Other traditional favorites
at the fair include the Country Store featuring fresh produce and candy;
food including marionberry cobbler; animal rides for children; a petting
zoo; storytelling; face painting; a raffle; "white elephants" (including
furniture) and Grandma's Attic with collectibles. Local performers will
present live music.
Proceeds from the fair are
earmarked for community outreach programs and the church's building fund.
