Sisters teen injured in wreck near Suttle Lake Gabrielle Carnavan,
19, of Sisters was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on Suttle
Lake Road on Monday evening, July 22.
Carnavan's friend Nichole
Beukelman, 17, was following Carnavan's car leaving Scout Lake after swimming.
Beukelman witnessed the accident.
According to Oregon State
Police reports, the right wheels on Carnavan's 1986 Ford Mustang left
the roadway and hit the gravel. The driver overcorrected, the car shot
across the roadway and stuck a large pine tree, OSP reported.
Beukelman said she stopped
and ran to Carnavan's car, checked her for head and neck injuries, pulled
her from the wreck and laid her on the ground. Beukelman's brother ran
to a nearby campground to summon help.
Carnavan was transported to
St. Charles Medical center with a broken leg, broken rib, broken collar
bone and lacerations.
Alcohol was not a factor in
the accident and no citationss were issued, according to OSP.
Beukelman said the accident
holds a lesson for teens.
"After watching this and seeing
what she's going through ... people my age need to slow down," she said.
While Beukelman indicated
that Carnavan was driving over the speed limit, the driver's inexperience
in dealing with a loss of vehicle control may have been the major factor
in the accident. |
