Car show goes on in smoky Sisters

A classy classic...

A low rumble was heard west of Sisters this past weekend as the 13th annual High Desert Rod and Custom Car Classic returned to Sisters.

Over 130 cars appeared at the Comfort Inn this year, which is down about 20 cars from last year.

"I think people were worried about the fires," said club president Glenn Cummins.

Randy Statton of Sisters brought his daughter Lauren to the show.

"It gives me a really big wish list," said Statton, whose favorite car, along with his daughter, was a '41 Willys coupe, with a projected 950 horsepower engine.

'This is a beautiful setting for the show," said Cummins.

"It's like walking through a park with a bunch of hot rods," said Rick Brown, who cruised to Sisters from Portland with the Rose City Renegades in his 1937 Chevy Coupe.

The weekend started Friday evening with a hotdog feed for the participants. Through the weekend, prizes were given away by local DJ Bill Lewis. Lewis, who is also a classic car artist, has been a DJ for the event since its inception.

Customs Northwest puts on just two shows a year. This one and the Unfinished Nationals in Graham, Washington.

"We love coming here," said Cummins.
