Outlaws run Portland-to-Coast For the fourth
consecutive year, the Outlaws cross country teams will participate in the
Portland-to-Coast High School Challenge, which runs in conjunction with
the Hood-to-Coast Relay.
The 126-mile race, which starts
at the Spaghetti Factory and finishes in Seaside, is scheduled for August
23-24.
The Outlaws have two co-ed
teams entered this year, and although they will be competitive, the purpose
of participating is more focused on team unity, according to coach, Charlie
Kanzig.
Co-ed teams are made up of
six girls and six boys, so the Outlaws will have 24 team members involved,
along with at least four adult drivers. Each runner covers two legs averaging
about five miles per leg.
"Many of the kids have been
training well this summer," said Kanzig. "For those who haven't, the relay
will be a jump start for the season."
Practice for the season begins
Monday, August 19 at 6:45 a.m., so the entire team will have a few days
together before setting off on the relay.
"It's a great way to kick
off the season," Kanzig said. |
