Breakfast
supports Hasty Team
Several hundred
people turned out for the annual Labor Day weekend Sunday pancake breakfast,
supporting Camp Sherman's Hasty Search and Rescue Team.
The breakfast, held at the
historic Camp Sherman Community Hall, served a hearty menu of pancakes,
ham, eggs, juice and coffee.
A beautiful morning in the
70s allowed breakfast-goers to eat inside the hall or on picnic tables
outside on the grass.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jack
Jones was on hand to support the Camp Sherman team a branch of the Jefferson
County Search and Rescue Team.
There are presently about
25 members with the Hasty Team, which is led by Mark Foster.
Asked why she was a member
of the Hasty Team, nine-year Search and Rescue veteran Sue Morgan replied,
"Mark's leadership is a big reason for success of the program. We get
good training and the team works well together. Also, I like helping in
this wonderful community."
Outside the hall, Mark Foster
gave a demonstration of the team's new underwater camera to Jim Stermberg
and his daughter Chris.
"We use this when victims
are underwater and need to be found. It's been used that way twice in
the past year," said Foster.
Another team member, Lance
Piatt, was busily clearing off tables in the hall. Asked why he joined
the team, Lance replied, "I was pulled off Mt. Hood by a rescue team.
I just sort of gravitated to joining this fine team."
Piatt also runs an equipment
supply business in the Sisters area for search and rescue teams.
Ron Barry has been with the
Hasty Team for three years. He is also a member of the Hoodoo and National
Ski Patrol teams.
"I like helping in such a
beautiful area," said Barry, who formerly was with the Lake Tahoe Search
and Rescue group.
Larry Fernandez, another team
member, while serving ham to breakfast patrons stopped and said," I joined
the Hasty Team because of the training and I like outdoors stuff and being
motivated to help."
Those who missed this year's
benefit breakfast may send donations to the Hasty Team, P.O. Box 95, Camp
Sherman, Oregon 97730. |
