City
obtains grant funds for restrooms Funds are now
in hand for the construction of a restroom facility at the proposed Harold
Barclay Park on Ash Street in downtown Sisters.
Last Thursday, September 26,
the Sisters City Council entered into a grant award contract with the
Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC) to receive the grant funds.
"This gives us the authority
to enter into a grant contract," City Administrator Eileen Stein said.
"The city will receive close
to $34,000. I'm not sure of the final number amount. It has fluctuated
up and down, depending on what's going on with the state budget process."
The city will match the grant
and also use funds from the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce restroom
fund. "The restroom facility will have eight stalls -- four for each sex,
and they will be connected to the city sewer system," Stein said. "This
is fulfilling a long-term desire to have public restrooms in the downtown
area."
According to Stein, "the total
cost of the restrooms will be about $100,000. We are looking to get the
project completed next spring, in time for summer." |
