A Taste of Our Own will provide a tasty lunch for students, staff and the public one day a week at the school. The cafe dining experience is part of a hands-on training program offered through the school's culinary arts program.

The menu offers tasty sandwiches, including a tasty Italian sub or a BLT; broccoli cheese soup; Chinese chicken salad; and a choice of wraps.

A choice of beverages is available and a variety of smoothies offer a delicious drink alternative.

According to Nutrition Services Coordinator Janice Comfort, the cafe will open on Thursday, October 31 and will run on Thursdays through November.

There will be a brief intermission for a new trimester.

A Taste of Our Own is essentially a scaled-back version of the Outlaw Cafe project that was conceived last summer.

That off-site restaurant project received funding through a $25,000 Central Oregon Community Investment Board (COCIB) grant. The school district backed out of the project after state budget cuts made it impossible to sustain the school's part of the effort.

COCIB agreed to scale back the grant and reallocate the funds to A Taste of Our Own.
