Sisters experiences "chilling" Halloween
By Jim Cornelius

A cold front that swept through Central Oregon last week made for an especially chilling Halloween.

Temperatures plunged into the single digits at night, several nights in a row. Some Sisters area residents reported temperatures below zero.

Though the cold snap frosted the pumpkin -- or froze it solid as a rock -- and threatened to freeze the fingers of eager trick-or-treaters, holiday events went off without a hitch.

Nearly 200 ghosts, goblins (and ninjas and superheroes and wizards) gathered in the Village Green Park on October 31, before heading out across Sisters to plunder local merchants of all their candy.

That night, Halloween revelers visited Sisters Fire Hall for a dose of fright.

The cold temperatures also served to remind local residents that winter is just around the corner. That was confirmed by an unexpected light snowfall on Tuesday, October 29.

Slick roads caught drivers unprepared a couple of days before the legal deadline for studded tires.

After the skies cleared, those drivers descended on local tire shops for the annual ritual of swapping out tires.
