Sisters
Library: more than books A visit to the
Sisters Library quickly proves that today's library not only offers books
but also the latest magazines, newspapers, audio tapes, internet and e-mail
connections, art works, reference help, meetings and the latest Hollywood
has to offer.
A large new collection of
DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) titles is offered at the Sisters Library.
These outwardly look like ordinary compact disks (CDs) but store from
six to 12 times as much information.
Titles ranging from "Amistad"
to "Withnail and I" are among the over 700 educational and entertainment
DVD films currently presented. Some are old classic films while others
are recent releases.
Library patrons may select
these at the library or from home via the Internet. Many films are available
at the Sisters branch but all are accessible from the Deschutes Public
Library System's other branches in Bend, La Pine, Redmond and Sunriver.
Those not available in Sisters may be ordered and then picked up in Sisters.
Most people play these DVDs
on home television sets connected with a DVD player. However, they may
also be viewed on computers that have DVD drives.
The library also offers over
2,700 VHS movie tapes for home use. Again, titles range from educational
to entertainment choices and may be ordered or selected as listed above.
DVDs and videotapes will be
found in both the adult and children's sections of the library.
The library district website
is located at www.dpls.lib.or.us/.
Library workers can show patrons
how to connect with the Internet address and order films. |
