Letters to the Editor is an open forum for the community and contains unsolicited opinions not necessarily shared by the Editor. To the Editor:

With the current logic on taxation in this state, we shall soon be paying no taxes.

When the economy is good politicians clamor to reduce tax rates and kick back collected taxes in excess of budget needs instead of building reserves for tough economic times.

When the economy is bad, politicians say that we shouldn't raise taxes because that would hurt the economy. As Spock would note on Star Trek, "It is not logical."

To The Editor:

The Kiwanis Club of Sisters would like to thank the community for their support of the Sisters Food Bank over the Christmas Holidays. We want to thank the local churches, Cub Scouts, Brownie Girl Scouts, Sisters High School and individuals of the community who donated food and cash to the Food Bank.

The Food Bank would like to give special recognition to the Sisters High School for the success of their food drive (two tons of food collected) and to the Sisters Community Church for their ongoing food drives (four a year and approximately three tons of food collected).

The Food Bank, located on the corner of Oak Street and Main Avenue, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We are currently serving between 50 and 60 families a month and any needy individual or family is welcome to apply for assistance. For more information call 549-4112.

To the Editor:

I am a Sisters High School student writing on behalf of the Americana (Project) class.

On January 11, the Americana students put on the highly attended Waybacks concert.

As a student I am extremely proud of the concert's success and the support of the community.

As students we wrote thank-you notes to businesses; we realized we needed to thank our community.

We all really appreciated your support and attendance at the concert; it ensures that the Americana Project will continue to grow and be available to students like myself.

Thanks,

Kerani Mitchell
