Searchers find hikers Two missing hikers
walked out of the woods near Upper Three Creek Lake on Sunday, February
16, after they came across the snowmobile tracks of rescuers sent out to
look for them.
According to Deschutes County
Sheriff's Office reports, Bruce Flaming, 67, of Black Butte Ranch and
Karen Enns, 42, of Hood River, were hiking with Mark Flaming, 44, of Hood
River on Sunday afternoon.
The party split up to take
different routes on the return leg of their hike. Mark Flaming reported
that he became lost and later walked out, catching a ride back to the
parking lot.
Bruce Flaming and Karen Enns
had returned to their vehicle prior to his arrival, had left their packs
and left again in an attempt to locate Mark.
When they did not return,
Mark notified the sheriff's office, which dispatched search and rescue
and Forest Service personnel to locate the hikers.
At about 10 p.m., Flaming
and Enns came across searchers' snowmobile tracks and followed them out
to the trailhead.
Sheriff's office personnel
noted that the hikers carried no map, compass or flashlights. |
