Band
wins top ranking The Sisters High
School Band won first place at the Capital Conference Band Festival Competition
held at Sweet Home High School on Wednesday, April 9.
The 64-member band has won
this prestigious award for four years in a row and again received an invitation
to compete in the OSAA Oregon State Music Championships.
The band was recognized for
its hard work by a panel of Oregon Band Directors Association judges and
won many positive, appreciative comments about its performance.
"Even more important than
that was the group finished their performance satisfied they had done
their best," said band director Jody Henderson.
"Each judge had the opportunity
to contribute advice towards further improving the band's performance
at the festival event," said Henderson. "The Sisters Concert Band is looking
forward to applying the critique information they received towards preparing
a performance to represent themselves as one of 12 bands at the state
festival."
The student musicians enjoyed
the competition.
"It was an amazing experience,"
said senior Angie Zandonatti.
"We played like we've never
played before. It gave us much joy to see Mr. Henderson so pleased with
our performance. We look forward to state and hope to improve even more
so that we can do our very best."
Fellow band member Molly VanAcker
added, "Our class put in an astounding amount of effort to get prepared
for the district festival. It was a relief to know that our hard work
paid off in the end."
The OSAA State Music Championships
will be held on the afternoon and evening of May 13 at Oregon State University.
The event will be open to
