Sisters
launches adopt-a-flag program
Bob and Jeri Buckmann launched the Sisters Adopt-A-Flag Program as a way for the community to show patriotism and support for American troops overseas. The Sisters City Council unanimously approved the program, which makes city light poles available to fly the flags. According to Jeri Buckmann, 30 flags have already been "adopted" and ordered. Businesses or individuals may "adopt" a flag and their name, business name or the name of a loved one may be affixed to the flag. Each flag owner will be responsible for maintenance of his or her flag. According to Buckmann, the three-by-five-foot flags are embroidered and made of durable, high-quality nylon. The flags will be illuminated at night by the street light, in keeping with appropriate flag etiquette. Buckmann said the flags will remain up continually through the Fourth of July holiday, then they will be unfurled for appropriate patriotic holidays thereafter. There are 80 light poles in Sisters, capable of holding 160 flags. Flags are $45, including all hardware. To order a flag, contact the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce at 549-0251 or Jeri or Bob Buckmann at 548-4708. Checks should be made payable to Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. |
