New road to be finished this summer

One more piece of the road that will run from the Sisters Industrial park to the new Sisters High School has been completed.

The section of Barclay Drive/McKinney Butte Road that runs past the Comfort Inn and Mountain Shadow RV Park was paved last month. The paving had been held up while the owner of the motel and the city discussed the property's sewer connection.

Those issues -- whether the property should have two sewer connections or one and whether the city owes the owner of the motel for some buried pumps -- have not been resolved.

However, the sewer connection was placed to the motel property line so that the road will not have to be torn up however those issues turn out. The motel owner went ahead and completed the paving, according to city Public Works Director Gary Frazee.

Currently, the road is paved through The Pines development, though there remains a 15 foot gap where some sewer work was done.

Frazee expected to take down the fence between the motel road and The Pines this week. Drivers will then be able to navigate the road all the way from Camp Polk Road, through the industrial park, past the Best Western Ponderosa Lodge, across Highway 20, past the Comfort Inn and through The Pines to Brooks Camp Road.

According to Frazee, the road must be completed all the way to the new high school by August 15.

A traffic signal is planned for the intersection of McKinney Butte Road and Highway 20 at some point when the traffic volume requires it.
