Eagle Scout honored
Scout Master Jim Stewart of Boy Scout Troop 30 in Portland presented Davis the prestigious award and certificate. Assistant Scout Masters Robert Kleffner and Jack Stewart also presided in honoring Davis. The achievement will be recorded at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Parents Lee and Josephine Davis, were recognized as well for their tireless contributions and loving support. Davis joined his Boy Scout Troop in Portland at the age of 10. When the family moved to Sisters four years later, Davis elected to stay with the Portland troop and commuted back every month for campouts. He attended every summer camp until he was 18. His Eagle Scout service project was done here in Sisters. He and his troop built the split rail fence bordering the city park on Locust Street. It took four years to receive his Life Scout, the last step before becoming an Eagle. Davis served as Senior Patrol Leader for a year and is now a Junior Assistant Scout Master. He has also completed the Polaris Leadership Camp and has earned 37 merit badges. Davis expressed his appreciation to The Boy Scouts of America for the opportunity to learn many life lessons. "I strongly recommend that any 10- to 12-year-olds give it a chance. It gives you the chance to be in the outdoors and to learn important skills along the way that can help you later on in life," he said. Friends and family members from Portland and Sisters were in attendance to mark the occasion and extend congratulations. A luncheon and reception followed. Davis graduated from Sisters High School Friday, June 6. He will be attending Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. "Now that I'm an Eagle Scout, I plan to give back to my troop as often as I can. I also want to thank my leaders for all the time and effort they have put into my scouting experience," Davis said. |
