Mentoring program seeks volunteers

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon is looking for caring adult mentors in the Sisters area.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program is an opportunity for adults of all ages to form a lasting friendship with a child.

"It only takes a few hours a week to get involved and make a 'Big' difference," said case manager Aimee McClinton.

According to the organization's website, more than 500 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies nationwide match volunteers with children who will benefit from some additional support and guidance.

The program is based on one-to-one mentoring for youth between the ages of 6-15. Many are from single-parent homes and all need some additional support, guidance, and individual attention.

Volunteers serve as friends, mentors and role models, helping children gain greater self-confidence.
