Sisters
district hires new fire chief Taylor
Robertson of Eugene will be Sisters' new Fire chief.
The Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural
Fire Protection District board of directors chose Robertson unanimously
from among three final candidates, according to board chair Dave Elliott.
The finalists were selected
from among 47 applicants for the position, which opened up with the retirement
of Don Rowe.
The candidates participated
in an interview with a selection committee, which includes a number of
firefighting professionals, including Black Butte Ranch Fire Chief Ed
Sherrell and Bend Fire Chief Ron Oliver.
According to Elliott, the
district created a thorough and arduous selection process, which included
a day-long battery of tests.
Elliott noted that Robertson
will work well with Deputy Chief Ken Enoch.
Robertson, a 36-year veteran
firefighter, is a District Chief in Eugene.
"His education and background
is outstanding," Elliott said.
"He seems to have all the
qualities we were looking for -- leadership, strong fire background; his
team- building experience is well-documented."
Elliott said Robertson seemed
like a good fit for a fire district that values its close and warm relationship
with the community.
"His primary work ethic is
customer-service oriented," Elliott said. "He stressed that every time
we talked to him."
Elliott said the district
is looking for strong leadership and mentoring qualities to help build
on an already exemplary staff and volunteer program.
The new chief is expected
to be on the job in Sisters within a month. |
