Woosley finds bone marrow donor

Carol Woosley, a 16-year veteran waitress at Black Butte Ranch (BBR) received good news last Friday, October 25: A bone marrow transplant donor has been found to help her in her fight against cancer.

She will proceed with the operation.

In fact, two donors have come forth, one male and one female. Her medical team has chosen the man, who is younger, which makes for less complication. Both donors matched on 11 of 12 points of reference required of the donor.

Woosley will spend this week, October 26-31, at St. Charles Medical Center where she will undergo a series of chemotherapy treatments to prepare for this difficult and lengthy procedure.

The week following she will be sent to OHSU (Oregon Health Sciences University) School of Medicine where the transplant operation will be performed. She will be in Portland for 100 days, it was reported.

Last July over $30,000 was raised by her friends and fellow employees at the Ranch through a very successful benefit evening that included a money-making barbecue and auction.

That event was coordinated by the kitchen and dining staff at BBR with Maxine Braune, head of the restaurant, acting as chairman.

At that time, Braune said, "over $24,000 was donated that very night with the additional coming through personal checks in the days afterward.

"We're still getting money," Braune said, reminding those who want to help Carol and her husband, Michael, that they may send aid c/o Black Butte Ranch, Box 8000, Sisters, 97759.

Only a portion of the procedure is covered by insurance.
