Benefit concert series returning to Sisters

After a year's hiatus, the Sisters Starry Nights Benefit Concert Series is back in a new venue with a stellar line-up of performers.

The event, now in its seventh season, has raised more than $330,000 to date for the Sisters Schools Foundation.

Pop superstar Kenny Loggins, in his first-ever Central Oregon appearance, will kick off the 2004 Starry Nights season backed by his touring band on Saturday, January 17. With a career spanning more than 30 years, Loggins has 12 platinum and 14 gold records.

Starry Nights favorite Kim Carnes returns to host a Nashville-style singer-songwriter showcase on Saturday, March 13. Joining Carnes will be country-pop singer Suzy Bogguss and one of country music's new stars, Carolyn Dawn Johnson (ACM "Top New Vocalist 2002, CMA Horizon nominee 2002, American Music Awards "Favorite New Country Artist 2003).

Completing the circle will be Starry Nights veteran Greg Barnhill.

Closing out the series is a special Sunday show on April 18 with renowned artist Kathy Mattea, who will perform with her touring band. A two-time Grammy winner and multiple CMA and ACM award winner, Mattea expands on her country roots with an eclectic blend of Celtic and folk music that has earned acclaim from fans and critics alike.

Starry Nights co-organizer Jeri Fouts emphasized the unique nature of the concert series.

"It's important for people to remember that Starry Nights is not just a regular concert -- it is first and foremost a fund-raiser designed to support the students of the Sisters School District, Fouts said. "It has succeeded because of the generosity of our community, the commitment of our volunteers and the great gift we receive from our artists.

This year Sisters Starry Nights will move to the new Sisters High School auditorium. Fouts says the venue is "beautiful, state-of-the-art and will provide our entire Starry Nights audience with an intimate musical experience. She adds, however, that there will be fewer seats to sell.

General admission tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, at Leavitt's Western Wear in Sisters.

Because of the anticipated demand for tickets for the Kenny Loggins show, they are priced at $50 and limited to two per person. A lottery system will be used, and ticket buyers should not arrive at Leavitt's before 8:45 a.m.

Tickets for the March and April shows will not use the lottery system. They are priced at $35 with a limit of four per person.

The auditorium will also have a reserved sponsor section with tickets to all three shows at a higher price tag.

"Past sponsors have the first opportunity to renew their sponsorships, similar to a season ticket for a sports team, said Sisters Starry Nights marketing director Mike Gould.

Those interested in being added to a priority waiting list for any unsold sponsor seats should call Gould at 318-1100.
