Multnomah
building is for sale The
Multnomah Publishers general office building at 204 West Adams Ave. is on
the market. The Sisters City Council agreed unanimously in its October 23
meeting to market the building and lot for $949,900.
The City of Sisters purchased
the building in early 1999 to use as a new city hall, but discovered it
would be too expensive to make the extensive changes needed for the building
to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Instead, the city plans to
use the money from the sale of the Multnomah building to help fund land
purchase, construction, and design costs to build a new city hall on the
site of the former Sisters Middle School.
The city had been looking
for a decade for a suitable option to replace its existing city hall,
which is cramped for space. A 9,200-square-foot bowling alley building
was donated to the city in 1994 for that purpose, but the city found it
too expensive to remodel.
No price or design has been
determined on the new city hall, but the city council agreed last month
to buy 132,400 square feet of the northeast corner of the former middle
school site for $291,600, from the school district to build the new city
hall.
After selling their building
to the city, Multnomah Publishers, a nationwide Christian book publishing
company, has continued to lease the building for the last three years.
The lease will expire on December 31.
The 8,000-square-foot, two-story
building is located on 38,332 square feet of a rectangular-shaped property
and is selling as is, said Eileen Stein, city administrator.
The building is wood-framed,
with 4,000 square feet and several office spaces on each floor.
Stein said the building is
most suitable to be used as a general office building, similar to its
existing use.
The building has a kitchen,
a large meeting room, and several partitioned office spaces.
So far, the city has received
no prospective buyers, Stein said. |
