Ball
field construction is on 'fast track'
Robinson & Owen Construction of Sisters completed grading of the four-field complex last week, according to league vice president Brian Witt. "They're donating all their heavy equipment and doing all the grading work for free," Witt said. "Things are moving fast," Witt said. "The project is on a pretty fast track." League officials are feeling a sense of urgency, trying to get irrigation in and grass seed in the ground during Sisters' short growing season. If the fields are seeded now, they'll be playable next year. "Hopefully we'll get it greened-up by mid-August," Witt said. Mike Burke of Sisters Landscaping, Inc. has donated his design expertise for the irrigation system. Witt said volunteers are needed to help get the system in the ground. "If you've worked on sprinklers you can help out," he said. The ball fields have been a long-term project involving extensive fund-raising by Sisters Kiwanis. The annual Hole-in-One Contest provided major funding. To volunteer, contact Rod Hjelmstad at 549-7323. |
