Thieves hit Sisters KOA

Thieves hit the Sisters KOA late Friday night, stealing up to $10,000 in power tools, camcorders, cell phones and other items from a workshop and the motor home parked inside, according to owner Denny McCarthy.

"A tremendous amount of tools were stolen. Makita cordless hand tools, drills and sanders and routers," McCarthy said. "Our motor home was parked in the building. They got into that too and took camcorders, cell phones, and a camera."

McCarthy said the thieves broke into the large shop, which is on the east side of the KOA parking lot, from the rear of the building under a set of solar panels. They slid under the motor home and entered the shop, then opened the big sliding doors that face the highway.

"There is a lot of traffic out here at night and we couldn't see that side of the building from where we live above the store," McCarthy said.

He believes the theft occurred between 9 p.m. Friday night and early Saturday morning. McCarthy discovered the theft when he went out to the shop to get a drill.

McCarthy said Deschutes County Sheriff's deputies have lifted fingerprints from the scene and taken a lot of pictures. Items were taken to the lab for further study.

McCarthy has owned KOA three miles east of Sisters for 18 years, and has never had any major thefts.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Denny McCarthy at 549-3021 or Deputy Chad Davis at 923-8270.
