McCarthy said the thieves broke into the large shop, which is on the east side
of the KOA parking lot, from the rear of the building under a set of solar
panels. They slid under the motor home and entered the shop, then opened the
big sliding doors that face the highway.
"There is a lot of traffic out here at night and we couldn't see that side of
the building from where we live above the store," McCarthy said.
He believes the theft occurred between 9 p.m. Friday night and early Saturday
morning. McCarthy discovered the theft when he went out to the shop to get a
drill.
McCarthy said Deschutes County Sheriff's deputies have lifted fingerprints
from the scene and taken a lot of pictures. Items were taken to the lab for
further study.
McCarthy has owned KOA three miles east of Sisters for 18 years, and has never
had any major thefts.
