Also appearing is Manfred Radius, a German pilot living in Toronto, who is
regarded as the best sailplane pilot in the world.
Other acts include pilot Joe Hartung, Baton Rouge, La., flying a Polish jet
called an Iskra and Wanda Collins, Santa Cruz, Calif., who will fly a Pitts S2B
biplane.
"This show will definitely have something for the entire family," said Ken
Gasior, event chairman. "In addition to the high speed jet demonstrations, the
show will feature some of the most talented aerobatic pilots in the world."
Announcer for the show will be Sandy Sanders of Reno, Nevada.
The Thunderbirds squadron, which was formed in 1953, is an Air Combat Command
unit composed of eight pilots. A Thunderbird air demonstration is a mix of six
aircraft, performing formation flying and solo routines. The four-aircraft
diamond formation demonstrates the training and precision of Air Force pilots,
while the solos highlight the maximum capabilities of the F-16 Fighting
Falcon.
The Central Oregon Air Show, one of the region's largest events is expected to
bring more than 40,000 people to Redmond's Roberts Field. A volunteer board
organizes the non-profit event every other year to raise funds for local
charities.
Next year's performance will benefit the Ronald McDonald House, a facility
dedicated to providing accommodations for families of seriously ill children.
