More than 70 percent of the residents of Sisters will be changing their
addresses July 1.
Massive exodus? No. The city administration has decided it is time to
straighten out some of the confusion and make right some of the street numbers
in town.
Like City Planning Director Neil Thompson says, "You can no longer call for
emergency help and say `come to the Johnson house.' "
There have been problems sometimes getting emergency vehicles to the right
address. There have actually been a couple of cases in which residents moved
down the street and took their old addresses with them, says City Administrator
Barbara Warren.

There are numbers on most homes and businesses in Sisters, now, but there are
inconsistencies. There are three 100 blocks on Spruce Street. Everyone uses Fir
street to divide the east side of town from the west side. The city charter
says it has to be Elm street. Cascade is the dividing line between north and
south.
New numbers are being assigned to residences and businesses effective July 1.
Residents will find out what their new numbers are when they get their May
water bill around the first of June.
Thompson said July 1 was selected as the date to coincide with the date of the
new "541" telephone area code. It is a time when businesses will be changing
their letterheads, business forms and cards, he said.
