Sisters could attract thousands of antique aficionados this August as one
of Central Oregon's major antique shows sets up shop on the grounds of the
school district's administration campus.
Country Heart Promotions is bringing its summer festival -- formerly known as
Antiques at the Drake -- to Sisters August 3-4.
The festival, renamed the Sisters Antique Festival, will feature over
100 booths selling furniture, textiles, jewelry, primitives, glassware,
collectibles and country decorating accessories. Vendors apply from all over
the Pacific Northwest. The show has attracted thousands of visitors over the
past five years.
"Everyone is thrilled that we've moved," said festival organizer Nancy
Mattison.
The festival lost its venue at Drake Park in Bend after restrictions were
imposed on the number of events allowed per month in the park. Mattison said
that the alternative venue in Bend was in a parking lot, which was not suitable
for vendors.
"We think Sisters is a better location," she said. Mattison said the idea of
coming to Sisters was sparked by a conversation with Kay McLaren and Carrie
Cheatham at a show at the Mountain View Mall.
"They were saying that they so much wanted us to do an antique show in
Sisters," Mattison said. The loss of the Drake Park venue made a move
attractive.
Mattison said she has been welcomed by Sisters.
"It's so nice to be wanted," she said. "To be welcomed with open arms in
Sisters is really encouraging.
