Sisters team goes racing

Jim Ramsey of Sisters and his nephew Lenny Gorman are gong racing again this weekend. Sponsored by Sisters BP and Sisters Storage and Rental, Ramsey and Gorman race mini-trucks at the speedway up in Madras.

Ramsey said he and Gorman currently race in the mini-car class, but with a few other truck owners are trying to form a class just for mini-trucks. The trucks are mostly stock, except for tires and suspension.

"That way someone can't put $5,000 or $6,000 into and engine and dominate," Ramsey said.

The trucks are lowered 2 1/2 inches, and have a "locked" differential. They run large tires, with the right front tire larger than the left to run on the oval track. They average 60 to 65 mph around the short circuit.

Ramsey said the only weight in the rear of the truck is the eight gallons of fuel and 35 pounds of lead in the left rear corner.

The next race is this weekend, August 10, in Madras. Qualifying begins at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m.
