Christmas elves will not parade down the streets of Sisters this holiday season.

The annual Sisters Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, was called off after a vote by the chamber's retail council.

"We left the decision up to the retail committee and they voted no, so we're abiding by their wishes," said Chamber Manager Adrienne Van Bemmel.

Van Bemmel said the retail council cited lack of community interest and dissatisfaction with the quality of the event in making their decision.

All about the Sisters Country "We wanted some live music and we wanted to make it more lively," Van Bemmel said. She noted that, while the high school dance team participated last year, the chamber couldn't get the high school band to play.

The traditional tree lighting will still happen, however.

"We'll have some kind of caroling, we'll have hot cider, Santa will be there, etc.," Van Bemmel said.

She said the chamber has received about two dozen calls expressing disappointment.

The retail council will revisit the subject at their November 12 meeting.
