Sisters Middle/High School principal Dennis Dempsey has been elected president
of the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators. The selection
adds to a growing number of honors for Dempsey.
As president-elect of OASSA, Dempsey will represent the association in Region
7 of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. NASSP is the
nation's largest school leadership organization. Dempsey will become president
of the state association in July, 1997.
Dempsey was hired as the first principal of the new middle/high school in
1992.
Before coming to Sisters Dempsey was president of the Alaska Association of
Secondary School Administrators (1989-90). He was a principal at Homer, Alaska.
He distinguished himself as the principal of the year for the State of Alaska
in the late 1980s, according to Sisters Superintendent Steve Swisher.
Dempsey also has become known internationally for his talks and writings on
technology in the schools, according to the OASSA news release announcing
Dempsey's election. It also stated that each of the three schools he has been
principal of over the past 15 years has been recognized for excellence in
education.
He also has been a successful cross country running and track coach, having led
teams to four state championships in cross country. Currently, he is the head
track coach at Sisters Middle/High School.
