Shawna Katrina Larsen of Mill Valley, California, was cited for careless
driving on Christmas Day after she lost control of a 1992 GMC Jimmy and smacked into a 1992 Subaru where Highway 20 crosses Squaw Creek in Sisters.
There was about 2 inches of snow on the ground and it was snowing hard at the
time of the accident, according to police reports. Larsen was headed west into
Sisters when her vehicle spun about 190 degrees, crossed the center line and
struck the Subaru, driven by Susan Robertson Cackler of Aloha, Oregon.
The right rear of the wheel well of the Jimmy hit the left front of the Subaru,
according to police.
Occupants of neither vehicle were seriously injured, according to police,
including the Cackler's children, one 18 months and the other three months.
Both children were in safety seats.
Winter weather continued to make driving hazardous through the week. On
December 26, Sisters Police assisted Oregon State Police with two wrecks
outside Sisters.
Passengers suffered minor injuries in a two-car collision just west of the
Cascade Meadow Ranch entrance on Highway 20 Thursday morning.
Seatbelts may have prevented serious injuries in a later single-car wreck at
milepost 8 east of Sisters. According to police, the driver was approachin a
gentle curve eastbound when she lost control on a patch of ice and crossed the
highway, rolling into the ditch. Police said the driver and her two passengers
were wearing seatbelts and were uninjured.
