Burglary charges dropped By line Burglary and attempted burglary charges against Jason Alan Melton, 21,
of Sisters, have been dropped. Melton was arrested after he allegedly entered a home on Indian Ford Road. Melton told The Nugget that he was looking for help after walking for about four hours from Stevens Canyon where his Jeep Cherokee was stranded. The Nugget was told by the sheriff's department and then reported that Melton went to the back door of a home after the homeowner had refused a request to use the phone. That was incorrect. According to both Melton and the homeowner, he rang the doorbell and knocked on the door. The homeowner said that she did not respond to the knocking. According to the sheriff's department report, Melton, who was allegedly accompanied by another person, then allegedly went to the unlocked back door, tried the handle, and stuck his head through the doorway. According to the homeowner, when she said "who are you and what
do you want," the man said "sorry" and lef Melton told The Nugget that he approached another house in the area, but left when he was refused help. Sheriff's reports stated that the resident of that home indicated that he would call police to get they young men help, but they declined and left. Melton is scheduled to enter a plea on a charge of Criminal Trespass on May 27. |
