Police executed a search warrant on a rented residence about four miles north of Camp Sherman on Saturday, October 18, seizing eight marijuana plants, weapons and drug paraphernalia. Surveyors also found the carcass of a young deer that had been shot, according to Ron Pugh, Forest Service law enforcement officer. Pugh said the forequarters of the deer had been taken, the rest left behind. Pugh said he did not know if the deer was a doe or a fawn, but it did not qualify as a game animal. The Forest Service alerted the Oregon State Police, which enforces game violations. Weapons found in the house, including a semi-automatic SKS assault rifle and semi-automatic .22 pistol, appeared to be legal weapons, according to Moore, though their role in the marijuana production was being investigated.
