By J.T. Bushnell Sisters Outlaw Shelly Greene has won the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. The award recognizes performance on the field or court, in academics, and demonstration of positive involvement in the community. Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3 "It's a huge honor to receive it, especially since I'm the first-ever winner from Sisters," Greene said. "It makes me proud, but came as a quite a shock." Greene, known primarily for her success in athletics, made a strong cases in each area. She maintains a 3.63 GPA and is the Associated Student Body vice-president. She has volunteered for over 100 hours of community service which includes helping to stage the Starry Nights concerts, blood drives, church activities, coaching grade school volleyball, and counseling her peers. "All of my other awards have been for athletics and it's nice to finally be recognized for everything I do," she said. Shelly has quite a few other awards, namely for volleyball. Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3 She has been MVP of the Capital Conference twice, and Class 3A player of the year for volleyball alone. She has earned a varsity letter every season - three seasons per year since the beginning of her freshman year. "I lead a very busy lifestyle with sports and other extra-curricular activities and keeping my grades up and all," she said. "I always get everything done, but the area of my life that is suffering from it is that I don't get to spend as much time with my friends." Shelly received the application for the coveted award only two days before the deadline and finished it on the bus ride back from a volleyball game. "It made it really stressful and I didn't think I had a chance because of the lack of time," she said. "In fact, I almost didn't turn it in because I thought it was a waste of time. But I'm sure glad I did." Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3 The award will be presented by the New York City Downtown Athletic Club and Wendy's. "I think that athletics has really influenced my life for the better and shaped me as a person," Greene observed. "It has helped me take other roles that I might not have experienced otherwise. "The school and community expect good leadership skills from top athletes," she said, "and I'm lucky that I have those skills.
