Casey Johnson, 18, of Sisters, Oregon, has earned the highest advanced award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Award.

A member of Troop #20 of Salem, Johnson is one of approximately 2.5 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Byron Meadows. Johnson has been involved in scouting for 12 years.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle; Johnson chose to build a flag pole at the Sisters High School football and track field.

Johnson has served as Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Senior Patrol Leader and has received Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow.

Johnson joins other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and James Lovell, director/ producer Steven Spielberg, and Pulitzer Prize winning author Harrison Salisbury.

Johnson is active in football and ski team at Sisters High School, where he is a senior. He plans to attend Western Oregon State University this fall, majoring in law enforcement. He is the son of Vern and Betsy Johnson of Sisters.
