Singer/songwriter Katie Cavanaugh has been given the 2005 “Folk Song of the Year” award by the Central Oregon Songwriters Association. This is the second year in a row Cavanaugh has received this honor. She was also won second place in the “2005 Central Oregon Songwriters Association People’s Choice” contest.
The competition was held at McMenamins with a standing-room-only crowd.
A group of 15 professionals from the music, television and radio industry judged this competition. Cavanaugh’s song “Morning, Oh Morning” was the folk song chosen for the award.
“This is the last cut on my new album Every Little Thing which I released in December of 2005.” Cavanaugh said. “My richly talented husband Doug performed with me adding perfectly blended harmony, lead guitar and clarinet, too.”
Katie has been a performing singer/songwriter for over 30 years. Her soulful journey in song goes from West L.A.’s famous Troubadour to opening for Merle Haggard at the Silverthorn Resort on Shasta Lake, California to being a two-time finalist for the Sisters Folk Festival Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest to opening for Cosy Sheridan and TR Richie at a concert held at Sisters Art Works this past fall.
Cavanaugh’s CD Every Little Thing is available at Paulina Springs Books, Sisters Coffee Co. and at Bedouin.
On April 20 at the Sisters Movie House the Cavanaughs will be opening for the Neil Young film “Heart of Gold.”
