Willora F. (Billie) Gulick
January 12, 1924 - July 23, 2014
Willora (Billie) was born Willora Frances Nelson, January 12, 1924 in Portland. She was the only child of Harry N. and Frances W. Nelson (Miller). She attended Kennedy Grade School, Jefferson High School and later, Portland State College.
She married her high school sweetheart, Lt. Joseph A. C. (Jack) Kassebaum in June, 1944. Joseph was killed September 23, 1944 while serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps in New Hollandia, New Guinea. Their only child, Jack A. Kassebaum, was born May 13, 1945. Jack's last name was subsequently changed when Willora married a second time to Dr. George E. Gulick. They had two children, James E. (Jim) and Frances W. Gulick (Randall). Jim preceded his mother in death on February 13, 2013.
Willora lived most of her life in Portland, but spent lots of time at her father's cabin outside Rhododendron, her great-uncle's house in Bend, and her uncle's summer home at Camp Sherman.
She moved to Sisters in the fall of 2005 and then on to Bend in January 2012. She enjoyed working in her gardens, camping, and raising dogs. She was especially fond of Welsh terriers and poodles, but just about all dogs caught her attention. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and her family.
She passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 after battling Alzheimer's and heart disease.
Willora is survived by her son, Jack A. Gulick; her daughter, Frances W. Randall; grandsons Stephen Kassebaum, Mark Gulick, Christopher Gulick, Adam Gulick, Andrew Gulick and Anthony Gulick; and granddaughter Adrienne Randall. Her grandson Derek Randall preceded her in death on June 4, 2012.
Willora is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Katie, Joe, Aurora, Liam, Kallie, Zackery, Austin and Faith.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent in Willora's name to your local American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
