Bob Johnston was born in Galesburg, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his three sisters: Helen, Marilyn, and Carolyn. He had two sons, Tim and Jay, and a daughter, Laura. He had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kathryn Kati Lindbloom Renner was born on October 15, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, and died at her home in Sisters on February 28. Her parents were Arthur and Dorothy Lindbloom. Surviving her are her husband of 40 years, Vernon Renner; sister Janice Lindbloom; brother Arthur Lindbloom; nephews Mike Lindbloom, Bob Lindbloom; niece Stephanie Ruttert; four step-children, Melanie, Julie, Brent and Amy.

Orville Wesley Carrol of Rome, New York, died March 10, 2018 of natural causes.

He was born at home in Bend on December 2, 1924 to George C. and Marie C. Sosinsky Carroll. Except for a three-year sojourn in Stockton, California, and a summer's job in Wenatchee, Washington, Mr. Carroll lived and worked in Oregon at various occupations, including time in Sisters.

LaVerne Edris Sawyer (called "Lu" by many friends and family) was born to Clara and Eddie Holm on June 6, 1923 in Moorhead, Minnesota. She was the oldest of four children and resided in Minnesota until she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to work in the shipyards during the war.

In memoriam: Jim Williams - A writer, photographer and a brave man
Nugget columnist Jim Williams lost his long battle with cancer on March 10, dying in hospice here in Central Oregon, with his extended family by his side.

It was a battle he documented in his column "Cancer and me," an unflinching and sometimes harrowing window on what it is like to face a cancer diagnosis for the third time in his life. Jim didn't flinch.

Harry Allen Orr, III passed away on January 19. He was 87 years old.

Born and raised in South Carolina, he early on distinguished himself for intelligence and motivation. He attended Fishburne Military Academy and graduated from Duke University NROTC in 1951. He married his life-long partner and best friend Ietje van Dobbenburgh later that year.
