Spinners/Weavers Group
The Central Oregon Spinners and Weavers Guild will meet at the Sisters Library on Saturday, February 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. The program will cover weaving a tartan plaid. All fiber enthusiasts are welcome! Info: 541-639-3217 or go online to weave-spin-centraloregon.org.

Cold Weather Shelter

Sisters Cold Weather Shelter is now located for the rest of the season, through March 15, at Westside Sisters, 442 Trinity Way. The shelter will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the cold weather. For additional information, call 541-719-8415, 541-639-7321, or go the shelter's Facebook page.

Habitat Groundbreaking

The community is invited to a groundbreaking celebration for Sisters Habitat for Humanity future homeowners Bear and Mary Gray. The event takes place Thursday, February 22 at 10 a.m. at 372 N. Desert Rose Loop in the Village Meadows neighborhood. For additional information call 541-549-1193.

Join the Choir!

Monday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Sisters High Desert Chorale begins practices for the spring concert. All who like to sing are welcome; there is no audition and ability to read music is not required. The concert will be performed near the end of May, with practices at 6:30 p.m. every Monday. The Library Book Club

Veterans Meetings

Furry Friends of Sisters

Furry Friends Foundation offers many pet services to families, including free spay and neuter surgeries, and maintains a year-round pet food bank. Furry Friemds is located at Sisters Art Works, 204 W. Adams Ave., Ste. 109, open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Note: visiting dogs must be leashed. Sisters School Board Budget Committee Openings

The SSD Board of Directors will appoint three community members to fill vacant Budget Committee positions to serve for three budget terms/cycles (to expire 6/30/20). Candidates must live in the distr ict, not be officers or employees of the district, and be qualified district voters; they should participate in school activities, commit time to review materials, and attend committee meetings. Quilt Raffle for Girl Scouts

Sisters Girl Scout Troop 10732 is raising funds for the Sisters Cold Weather Shelter by raffling a quilt made by Dera Rosdahl. The 58" x 60" quilt is on display at Rainwater Cafe, where tickets are available: $1 each or six for $5. Family Fun Story Time

Family Fun Story Times for kids ages birth through 5 take place at the Sisters Library Thursday, February 22 at 10:30 a.m. They feature songs, rhymes and crafts, all to grow young readers. Caregivers must attend with the child and are encouraged to participate in all the activities. For additional information call 541-312-1072.

Career Funds Available

Applications are available for the Sisters Kiwanis Career Opportunity Fund to help adult residents of Sisters establish an occupational path. You may pick up forms at the Kiwanis House, corner of Oak Street and Main Avenue between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursdays, and during regular hours from the Sisters Habitat for Humanity office. Taking "Bling" Donations

Sisters Kiwanis takes donations of antique or vintage jewelry and watches, even costume and broken pieces, all year long in preparation for next year's Antique & Collectibles Sale. Senior Luncheons and More

Sisters-area seniors are invited to join others at the Sisters Senior Luncheon! Lunch is served every Tuesday at noon at Sisters Community Church with a $3.50 suggested donation for those over 60. The espresso hour runs 11 a.m. to noon, and BINGO is played after lunch until 2:30 p.m. A free blood pressure clinic is offered the second Tuesday of the month, 11 a.m. to noon. Mr. SHS Pasta Feed

The annual fundraising pasta feed for the Mr. SHS Pageant will take place on Sunday, March 11 at Sisters Community Church (time to be announced). The contestants and their escorts will serve, and there will be an auction for couples to perform work that the bidders request. Have Art to Donate?

Save your art for donation! This will be the second year for a Friends of the Sisters Library fundraiser, the Annual Pre-Owned Art Sale. Please consider saving your treasures for this popular event. Art donations will be accepted one day only: Saturday, July 28. The sale will take place on Sunday, July 29 at the Sisters Library. For more information contact Linda Davis at 541-549-1222.

Information Available from the Chamber of Commerce

The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce has Oregon regional maps with information on points of interest, cities, towns, accommodations, state parks plus local and statewide events. Stop by for a packet with information on recreation within the local area! The chamber is located at the corner of Main Avenue and Spruce Street. Save the Rubberbands!

Business owners: Are you the recipient of a bundle (or more) of Nuggets each week? Dementia Caregivers Group

A free support group for caregivers of those suffering with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia takes place the first Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sisters City Hall. Sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association, meetings provide emotional, educational, and social support. Call 800-272-3900 or go to alz.org/oregon.

Al-Anon Family Groups

Support for Caregivers

A free support group for those who provide care in any capacity meets at the Ray's Food Place community room at 10:30 a.m. the third Tuesday of each month. Call 541-771-3258 for additional information.

Food Assistance at the Kiwanis Food Bank

You may be eligible for food assistance. Find eligibility rules at the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank, located at 328 W. Main Ave., open Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. USDA is an equal opportunity provider prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion or disability. Cat and dog food is also provided by Furry Friends Foundation.

Volunteer with Habitat

You can serve your community by joining the Sisters Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Team! Habitat has opportunities in both the Thrift Store and ReStore, and at build sites. Orientations are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at noon in the Habitat office, located at 141 W. Main Ave. Or for more information, call Jen Binks at 541-549-1621.

Be A Host Family

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs seek local host families for international students, ages 15 to 18. They are conversant in English, academically selected, and desiring to be a part of family activities and responsibilities. For additional information, please call 800-733-2773.

Black Butte School Budget Committee Openings

The Black Butte School District seeks qualified volunteers for the budget committee for 3-year terms. You must reside within the district boundary, be a registered voter, and not be employed by the district at the time of appointment or during the term of service. Training is provided. Friends Book Corner

You can find great buys on an excellent collection of gently used books at the Friends Book Corner! Open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m., it is located on the north side of the Sisters Library, next to the book drop. Proceeds go toward support of programs at the Sisters Library. Bottle & Can Drive for Furry Friends Foundation

Furry Friends Foundation can use your redeemable bottles and cans. Help the organization raise funds by dropping them off (in closed plastic bags, please) to the blue recycle bins on the front west porch at The Nugget. NOTE: They MUST be labeled with OR 5¢ - if not, please take them to the recycle center on Sisters Park Drive. For more information call 541-797-4023.
