STA Speaker Series
On Thursday, January 18 at the Sisters Fire Hall, Sisters Trails Alliance presents Sisters Ranger Ian Reid of the Deschutes National Forest Sisters District. He'll discuss future plans for the Sisters Ranger District. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the program at 7 p.m. This is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. SPRD Seeks Board Member

Sisters Park & Recreation District seeks a volunteer to serve on its Board of Directors. Meetings are generally held at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Board members must be registered voters and reside within the district. Application forms are at sistersrecreation.com/board-meetings, and are due no later than Thursday, January 18. Questions? Bingo & Community Dinner

On Monday, January 22, all are invited to Sisters High School for a night hosted by Sisters Park & Recreation District and Outlaws Together. From 5 to 6:30 p.m., enjoy a delicious dinner, just $2 per plate. Bingo will follow at 6:30 p.m., $15 for 11 games. There are great prizes, with a grand prize of an iPad Air 2! Veterans Meetings

Sisters VFW Post 8138 and American Legion Post 86 meet at 6:30 p.m. at Sisters City Hall the first Wednesday of each month with the next meeting February 7. All veterans in the Sisters area are welcome and encouraged to join, For additional info call Lance Trowbridge at 541-903-1123.

Hunter's Education Class

For a hunter's education class beginning Tuesday, February 6, register online at odfw.com (hunting-resources-education). It runs two nights per week for three weeks, plus a required field day. For information call Rick Cole at 541-420-6934 or Dave Jones at 541-863-0955.

Food Assistance at the Kiwanis Food Bank

You may be eligible for food assistance. Eligibility rules are online at fns.usda.gov/tefap or at the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank, 328 W. Main Ave., open Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. USDA is an equal opportunity provider prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion or disability. Cat and dog food is provided by Furry Friends Foundation.

Sisters Garden Club

Sisters Garden Club meets the second Saturday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at Sisters City Hall. On February 10, Kevin Smith from East Cascade Audubon Society will present on the topic of gardening and birds, and positive co-existing. For more info call 541-549-6390.

Fighting Hunger in Sisters

Three Sisters Lions Club is collecting food during the month of January to be donated to the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank. The common goal of all Oregon Lions Club is to collect 15 tons of food this month. Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at Deri's Hair Salon (208 S. Cedar St.), Davis Tire (188 W. Sisters Park Dr.), and Washington Federal (610 N. Arrowleaf Trail), weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Wednesday, January 31. For info call Sue, 541-719-0150.

Annual Chili Feed for Vets

Ronnie and Susie Frigulti present their 5th annual free chili feed for veterans and their families on Saturday, January 20 from noon to 3 p.m. at Sisters Community Church. The meal includes homemade chili, sausage, coleslaw, cake, coffee and soft drinks. ARTifacts Art Experience

The 21st annual celebration of the arts at Sisters High School takes place Wednesday, January 31, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It's fun for the whole family, with hands-on art stations including silkscreening, murals, passports to a take-away prize and more! There will be a pop-up gallery of student art and luthier designs; plus live entertainment performed by students in music programs, with refreshments from the high school's Culinary Arts program. Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

On Tuesday, February 13 from 5 to 7 p.m., the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration will include buttermilk, plain, and blueberry pancakes with a variety of syrups, sausage, homemade applesauce, and orange juice, coffee and tea. Opening Reception for Library Art Exhibit

An opening reception for the annual Sisters Library Art Exhibit will be held Friday, January 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with appetizers, beverages, and the announcement of the ever popular People's Choice Awards. Dementia Caregivers Group

A free support group for caregivers of those suffering with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia takes place the first Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sisters City Hall. Spinners/Weavers Group

The Central Oregon Spinners and Weavers Guild will meet at the Sisters Library on Saturday, January 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. and cover blending boards for fleece. All fiber enthusiasts are welcome! For additional information call 541-639-3217.

Furry Friends of Sisters

Furry Friends Foundation offers many pet services to families, including free spay/neuter, and maintains a year-round pet food bank. It is at Sisters Art Works, 204 W. Adams Ave., Ste. 109, open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Note that visiting dogs must be leashed. Info: 541-797-4023.

Exploring LGBTQ Writers

Friday, January 19 at noon at the Sisters Library, COCC English Prof. Chris Rubio highlights LGBTQ writers and their impact on civil rights movements and literature. Writers have played an important role in advancing the civil rights of the LGBTQ community. Learn about some of these key writers and their works. 541-312-1032.

Volunteer for Parks Board

The City of Sisters is accepting applications for a volunteer position on the City Parks Advisory Board (must live in the Sisters School District). The Board advises the City Council on matters pertaining to the acquisition, development, maintenance and preservation of public parks, trails, and open space areas; it meets once a month. Senior Luncheons and More

Sisters-area seniors are invited to join others at the Sisters Senior Luncheon! Lunch is served every Tuesday at noon at Sisters Community Church with a $3.50 suggested donation for those over 60. The espresso hour runs 11 a.m. to noon, and BINGO is played after lunch until 2:30 p.m. A free blood pressure clinic is offered the second Tuesday of the month, 11 a.m. to noon. Questions? Volunteer with Habitat

Start the new year off serving your community and join the Habitat Volunteer Team! Habitat has volunteer opportunities in both the Thrift Store and ReStore, and at build sites. Brass Ensemble Performs!

Vintage Valentine Workshop

On Friday, February 9 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Sisters Library, a workshop will be held in which participants will create vintage valentines. Animal Adventures with High Desert Museum

The Library Book Club

Quilt Raffle for Girl Scouts

Sisters Girl Scout Troop 10732 is raising funds for the Sisters Cold Weather Shelter by raffling a quilt made by Dera Rosdahl. The 58" x 60" quilt is on display at Rainwater Cafe, where tickets are available: $1 each or six for $5. Family Fun Story Time
